What is the GCCR Conference?
The International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services (ICCRS) is a body recognized by the Holy See for the promotion of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) with a juridical personality according to Cannon 116. At the international level, the role of ICCRS, as mandated in its charter by the Holy See, is to serve the world wide Renewal in all of its expressions and identities.
To facilitate deeper communion among different nations and expressions within the CCR, ICCRS has been promoting the concept of regional subcommittees. ICCRS subcommittee for Asia Oceania (ISAO) was formed in December 2006, and serves the CCR in Asia and Oceania as a center of unity, communication and cooperation in order to fulfill Christ’s desire, “that they may all be one” (Jn 17:21) and to keep Christ’s body without division (1 Cor 12:4-31). Taking up the challenging responsibility of strengthening the fellowship within the Renewal in Asia Oceania region, ISAO is convening consultations and events of reaching out in various Regions.
In order to reach out to the needs of the CCR and to strengthen the fellowship within the Gulf region, which is highly diversified and unique in nature in many ways, all the Charismatic communities of various languages in all countries in the Gulf came together in Abu Dhabi in December, 2008, in the first Gulf Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services (GCCRS) Conference. Subsequently the leaders of the CCR in Gulf countries cam together and formed a body, GCCRS Council to promote unity and co-operation among the various expressions and identities of the CCR in the region. The second GCCRS conference, now being organised in Kuwait is the fruit of the co-operation between the various communities of CCR in the region under the guidance of both the Bishops of the Southern and Northern Arabian Vicariates in line with the goals set by ISAO. The second GCCRS conference focuses on growth into ecclesial maturity and so would be a new milestone in building up the unity of the Church in the region with better co-operation among the expressions of CCR. Let us “put out into the deep” (Lk 5:4) in order to fulfill the dream of our Lord.
